How to Apply for a Grant for Legal Case Funding
![]()
Grant funding decisions are made under criteria adopted and periodically reviewed by the seven-member - all volunteer attorneys - Grants and Review Council and the ADF Board of Directors.
Grants are awarded based on the merit of cases according to strict guidelines. Preference is given to cases with high potential to set major national and regional precedents that will contribute to the body of case law others can use to litigate future cases. Due to funding demands, grants cannot be awarded for cases that only affect individual rights.
As a cash-based ministry, ADF always ensures that it has the funds on hand to fulfill each grant when it is awarded. ADF never funds a case in hopes of then raising money for it or to use it as a "fundraising tool." Instead, money awarded is set aside in a separate account so that grantees can count on critical funding being available when it is needed. The funds for the case are released only after documentation is received that the work has been completed. ADF takes these measures to ensure integrity and good stewardship of God's money provided by His people.
While ADF works hard to ensure that critical cases receive funding, many worthy cases are too costly and therefore have to be declined because ADF does not have the necessary resources to sufficiently fund the case through completion. It is our hope and belief that, by God's grace, we will continue to develop our capacity to the point that eventually, no worthy request will be turned away for financial reasons.
