The Work of the Alliance Defense Fund

ADF work to defend and preserve religious freedom.

In 1993, some of the most well-known and influential Christian leaders came together in response to the urgent need for a strong, coordinated legal defense of religious freedom and founded the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF). An organization unlike any other in America, ADF works to defend and preserve religious freedom through strategic coordination with other like-minded organizations; train Christian attorneys and future leaders of America; fund key, precedent-setting cases; and, when necessary, directly litigate through our in-house team of Christ-centered attorneys.

  • Strategy
Many Christian legal and policy organizations are working tirelessly to defend religious freedom, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family. ADF works together with such like-minded organizations, helping to coordinate an allied effort and to provide the resources and strategic direction needed on cases related our mission.

  • Training
In 1997, in response to the ACLU’s army of more than 2,000 volunteer attorneys nationwide, ADF launched the ADF Legal Academy – a training program for Christian attorneys – to help defend your religious freedom. ADF is also on the frontlines of training the next generation of leaders through the Blackstone Legal Fellowship – a one-of-a-kind, world-class leadership training program for first- and second-year Christian law students.
  • Funding
For too many years, people suffering religious discrimination could not afford the sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars that it can cost to defend their rights in court. ADF helps provide funding for key cases where religious freedom, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family are under attack.

  • Litigation
In addition to working with a network of nearly 2,100 allied attorneys nationwide, ADF directly litigates carefully chosen, strategic cases to preserve and reclaim your God-given, constitutionally protected religious freedom, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family.
