In 1953, Dr. Kennedy awoke to a preacher’s stern question on his clock radio: “Suppose you were to die today and stand before God, and He were to ask you, ‘What right do you have to enter into My heaven?’—what would you say?” Shortly after learning that no one has that right, and learning what the Bible had to say about how one can have such a privilege, Dr. Kennedy was called into the Gospel ministry.
Through his ministry – which lasted nearly five decades until his retirement in 2007 – Dr. D. James Kennedy became the most listened-to Presbyterian minister in the world. His broadcast messages were televised from the nearly 10,000-member Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale to 40,000 cities and towns across the United States and nearly 200 nations.
Beyond his leadership at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Dr. Kennedy founded and oversaw: Coral Ridge Ministries Media, Inc., Evangelism Explosion International, Knox Theological Seminary, and Westminster Academy. He is also the author of more than 55 books.
Dr. Kennedy and his wife, Anne, had one daughter. Dr. Kennedy went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2007.
