December 11, 2007The ADF Christmas Project is a little quieter this year … thanks to many successes in prior years, many public employers, officials, and administrators have backtracked from their anti-Christmas positions. In fact, even the ACLU seems to realize how unpopular its attacks on Christmas have become, and has begun publicly downplaying its opposition to the holy-day season. We've been receiving fewer calls for help on this issue which has enabled us to shift important ministry resources to address other urgent legal threats coming from the ACLU and its allies. But this does
not mean we are abandoning our defense of Christmas – as a recent win in Washington state demonstrates.
Last year, Washington resident Ron Wesselius asked if he could donate a nativity scene to be displayed in the Washington state capitol rotunda. Officials denied his request, even though they allowed a menorah and a "holiday tree" to be displayed in the same area. ADF filed a lawsuit on Ron's behalf, and the resulting settlement allowed Ron to display a nativity scene this year on behalf of citizens who celebrate Christmas. (In fact, it just went up in the rotunda last Monday.)

By God's grace, more and more Americans are realizing that "it's okay to say Merry Christmas." But we remain alert and as ready as ever to protect your legal right to celebrate Christmas.
