Democracy denied: Court disenfranchises Oregon voters- 8.14.08
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit Thursday upheld a district court decision denying Oregon citizens the right to vote on a referendum that concerns a new state law which many believe violates the state's marriage amendment. Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed a lawsuit on Dec. 3 on behalf of several disenfranchised Oregon voters after the secretary of state and several different county clerks invalidated their authentic petition signatures to place the referendum on the November ballot.

Prop. 8 proponents will appeal decision upholding flawed ballot title- 8.8.08
Alliance Defense Fund and ProtectMarriage attorneys will immediately appeal Friday's decision by a California judge that upheld wording changes made to the Proposition 8 ballot title by the state attorney general. The appeal will ask the California Court of Appeal to order the attorney general to comply with state election law that requires that the ballot title be fair and unbiased.

ADF attorneys submit brief to keep Uzbeki family together- 7.29.08
Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed a friend-of-the-court brief Monday with the Board of Immigration Appeals on behalf of an Uzbekistan man facing the possible deportation of his wife and separation from his child. The man has been allowed to stay in the United States because of persecution he endured in his homeland and the prospect of further persecution if he returns, but asylum can prevent his wife from being deported.

ADF files suit disputing N.M. commission’s ruling against Christian photographer - 7.1.08
Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed suit in state court Tuesday to appeal a ruling by the New Mexico Civil Rights Commission against an Albuquerque photography company. The commission ruled that the company, run by a Christian husband and wife, was guilty of “sexual orientation” discrimination under state antidiscrimination laws for declining to photograph a same-sex “commitment ceremony.”

In May, the California Supreme Court nullified the will of 61 percent of California voters by striking down Proposition 22, that state’s Defense of Marriage Act (supported by 4.6 million Californians in March 2000). The activist ruling was a slim 4-3 majority.

ADF defends FCC indecency regulations at U.S. Supreme Court - 6.10.08
Attorneys and allied attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed a friend-of-the-court brief Monday with the U.S. Supreme Court asking it to reverse an appellate court judgment that overturned the Federal Communications Commission’s censure of indecent language broadcast during Fox’s televised Billboard Music Awards. The appellate court held that because the words in question were merely “fleeting expletives,” Fox shouldn’t be held accountable for breaking FCC rules that forbid the use of indecent language on network television while children are likely to be watching.

On May 14, Governor Paterson, through his legal counsel, sent out a memo to all state agencies. In it, he cites a recent state court ruling in Martinez v. County of Monroe.
