We are sure that God can use us to make great strides for religious freedom in 2009 and beyond. What we are not sure of is if we will have the funding necessary to keeping winning.

Those funds are needed to defend the rights of Christians across America:
- Financial Grants
To provide financial grants to our hundreds of allied attorneys throughout the nation. Funds that will help cover filing fees, depositions, and other costs that add up as they donate their time on our cases. Right now, we are only able to provide about 20% of what is asked of us by these dedicated men and women.

- Election Realities
Prepare for the many challenges that the Obama administration will bring: appointment of more judicial activists to the bench, a push for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), "hate crimes" legislation, and the very real possibility of passing of the Freedom of Choice Act – which could repeal every pro-life law passed over the past 35 years, including the federal ban on partial-birth abortion.

- Fighting the ACLU
Leftist organizations are already boasting about their plans to expand into new territories by roaring through America's heartland like a spring cyclone. The ACLU alone is raising $335 million for the purpose of
"building infrastructure in the middle of the country." Translated, this means bringing more lawyers and lawsuits in the heartland, where it will ask courts to stamp its distorted view of the U.S. Constitution on schools, courthouses, government agencies, and churches... with ferocity never before seen there.
Someone has to stop them. Someone has to offer hope. That "someone" is ADF.

Together, we can do this!Nearly 15 years ago, that hope fueled the vision of the 35 ministry leaders who commissioned and launched the unique concept of ADF to keep the door open for the spread of the Gospel. That we have been able to do that so effectively – on so many fronts – is a testimony to your faithful prayers and dependable financial support.
Since our launch in 1994, ADF has constantly confronted the ACLU and its allies, who for decades, with little or no opposition, blitzkrieged America on a search-and-destroy mission to wipe public prayer and religious expression off the map. But thanks be to God, ever since ADF arrived on the scene, the ACLU has found its battle plans much more frustrated – and been taking a lot of direct hits of its own.
The Winning ADF WayAnd those hits add up. By God's grace, ADF and our allies have won more than 3 out of the 4 cases we've funded or litigated to conclusion. You probably remember many of them, like:
- Jesse Ramirez
ADF attorneys gained a court order permitting restoration of food and water for Jesse, leading to a celebration of life instead of a funeral for the Gulf War veteran, injured badly in an Arizona car accident. This year, the Arizona Legislature passed
"Jesse's Law" - a bill based on Jesse's case that protects patients who are physically unable to communicate their medical care wishes.

- Homeschooling
Faced with a decision by the California Court of Appeal that could have shut down home-schooling in California, tens of thousands of families were concerned about their children's future and the possibility of being forced to enroll their children in a public school system awash in leftist policies crafted by legislators pushing the homosexual legal agenda. But ADF and our allies persuaded the California Court of Appeal to
reverse the unfavorable earlier decision and rule that families could legally home-school their children without government intervention.

- Academic Freedom
ADF attorneys focused on our public university campuses secured a settlement with the California State University system over its unconstitutional speech codes that, in many cases, could be used to restrict speech by Christians. The victory assured crucial free-speech rights for the approximately
450,000 students in the university system's 23 schools.

- Marriage
Marriage between one man and one woman is what Americans believe is right – more than
11 million voted in support of marriage in Arizona, Florida, and California in November. However, the legal attacks to nullify their votes continue. We are proud to stand up for marriage and will continue to defend it, as our funding provides. We've now won 37 marriage cases with only three losses
(one which has now been reversed) and several cases still pending. Given these many ongoing concerns, you can understand our need. We must enable our lawyers and our allies to fight more cases. In 2009, we must work even harder to win.
