On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court issued one of the most devastating decisions in U.S. history, in which it concocted a constitutional "right" to abortion. Since then, an estimated 50 million preborn children have been senselessly killed, without reason, and without mercy.
Each year on September 11, we relive the shock and sadness, anger and despair that filled us when nearly 3,000 innocent people lost their lives in a cowardly act of terrorism. Imagine the horror if such an attack was carried out every single day since January 22, 1973. And then realize that since the passage of Roe v. Wade on that day, the average number of babies killed every day actually exceeds 3,000. It's staggering. To put this in perspective, 50 million preborn children is equivalent to the entire populations of California, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona, combined.
But many in this country continue to turn a blind eye to this horror, and many organizations that promote abortion, like Planned Parenthood, amass fortunes from taking these innocent lives.
Abortionists Exposed

Abortion is not a pretty business. According to the facts alleged in a complaint filed in a federal district court, a mother went to her local Planned Parenthood center in Nebraska to have her child aborted when she was 10 weeks pregnant. But once the abortion began, she screamed in pain and begged the staff to stop the procedure. They refused her request, held her down while they finished, then left her virtually unattended in a “recovery room” where she suffered three seizures and nearly hemorrhaged to death.
Does that sound like Planned Parenthood is concerned about a mother’s health and safety, as they claim?
Hardly... and there's more.
In Ohio, a 21-year-old high school teacher and soccer coach who seduced and impregnated a 14-year-old girl brought her to a Planned Parenthood center, where he claimed to be the girl’s stepbrother. The staff aborted the girl’s baby, gave her a shot of Depo-Provera™, and sent her home with free condoms.
When an ADF-allied attorney helped the girl’s parents sue Planned Parenthood, the organization quickly erected an iron veil of self-serving silence . . . offering no apology for its treatment of the child.
Protecting Pro-life Advocates

The legal fight to keep life sacred in America is a long-term battle that reaches far beyond those abortion facilities that remain in cities and towns across the country. While Planned Parenthood and its allies reap revenues from aborting children, they often expend great sums opposing laws that require parental consent before a minor girl may abort her child, and opposing informed consent laws that ensure pregnant women receive accurate information about their preborn child before making a “choice” that may have devastating, life-changing impacts on the mother.
The abortion industry simply does not tolerate any effective opposition to abortion. As a result, ADF regularly steps in to protect pro-life doctors, nurses, and pharmacists who, in good conscience, refuse to participate in the abortion process – whether it is surgical abortion or chemical abortion by the RU-486 pill, or being forced to dispense the so-called “morning-after” abortion pill. And even free speech is not safe in this battle, as ADF must regularly defend the rights of Christian students who want to speak out against abortion and share pro-life messages on their public school campuses.
Victories for the Sanctity of Life
With so many pre-born children being killed each year, it may seem that little progress is being made in the fight to protect life. But by God’s grace, and because of the dedicated prayers and support of Christians like you, the tide is turning. The number of abortions in America has dropped by one-third since 1992, the year the Supreme Court handed Planned Parenthood its greatest loss by approving state restrictions on abortion in Planned Parenthood v. Casey. And since 2009, a majority of Americans describe themselves as "pro-life."
Victories for life recently won by ADF and its alliance of nearly 2,100 attorneys offer real hope for a pro-life future:
- The Arizona Court of Appeals upheld the state's Abortion Consent Act, which protects the health and safety of pregnant women and their preborn children. This ruling has led Planned Parenthood to stop performing abortions at seven of its abortion businesses in the state.
- The U.S. Supreme Court in 2007 upheld the federal law banning partial birth abortion, protecting full-term babies from horrific deaths.
- The University of Wisconsin medical facility abandoned its plans to take over Planned Parenthood’s full-service, second-trimester abortion services after an intensive ADF legal campaign to protect the religious conscience rights of the university’s pro-life employees.
- The Missouri Court of Appeals rejected Planned Parenthood’s attempts to redefine RU-486 chemical abortions in order to make them widely available in doctors’ offices.
- The Alaska Supreme Court upheld petitions for a parental notification initiative to be placed on the ballot, which would require that abortionists notify parents if their minor daughter seeks an abortion.
Your gift will make it possible for ADF to continue to defend the sanctity of life, one case at a time. The Roe v. Wade decision came after years of radical pro-abortion agitation, and it will take a sustained effort with relentless determination to reverse that repugnant ruling.
By giving your best gift today, you will be making a critical investment in the fight to save lives and restore the conscience of America. Please give generously and prayerfully, believing that we can and will win the legal fight to save future generations from the ravages of Roe v. Wade and its legacy. Every day counts!
