Our God is a God of miracles (John 15:5), and we witnessed the fruits of His healing touch last week as Jesse Ramirez walked out of a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
Jesse is the 36-year-old Gulf War veteran whose life nearly ended in June when, after a tragic automobile accident, his food and water were withheld, and he was transferred to hospice care to die.
Because of the determination of certain members of his family, and because you prayed and supported our emergency—and then ongoing—legal efforts on behalf of Jesse, his food, water, and medicine were restored five days later. This allowed Jesse to live. And live he has.

“Every life has value, and everyone deserves a chance to recover from an injury,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Byron Babione
. “Providing food and water are not ‘extreme measures’ in such cases, and no one should be deprived of such basic necessities when they could recover. Jesse is making the most of his second chance. He is very grateful to be alive.”

Contrary to the values advocated by the ACLU and its allies, all human life has dignity. No life is disposable. We are so grateful for this victory, but the battle for the sanctity of life is far from over. With God’s blessing we will continue to press forward. Please stand with us and help us defend the lives of those like Jesse who cannot defend themselves.
