A Battle Lost, but the War is Far From Over
Inside the Issues with Alan Sears
June 10, 2008
Barring a miracle, by this time next week, your television screens will be filled with the faces of newly “married” same-sex couples. While the sight of secular media’s celebration will be hard to watch, hard to hear, hard to read – it is our current reality. Pray for these couples, that God’s love would lead them out of this destructive behavior and into the fullness of His desire for each of their lives. And while you pray for them, keep in mind – with God’s grace – their court fabricated “marriage” certificates could become null and void come November (like the 4,000 issued in 2004 by Mayor Newsom of San Francisco). That is when California voters will have the opportunity to reclaim marriage from an activist court.
It should not have come to this. Californians made their stand on marriage clear back in March 2000, when they passed Proposition 22, which defined marriage as being between one man and one woman…only. Last month, though, four activist members of the California Supreme Court blatantly disregarded the expressed will of Californians. The court’s 4-3 ruling on May 15 made Proposition 22 a thing of the past. But we must always remember that Proposition 22 was passed by 4.6 million Californians (61 percent of the vote!).
Same-sex “marriage” in California is disheartening. At the Alliance Defense Fund, we are prepping for what Senior Counsel Glen Lavy calls “legal chaos.”
"The Court has not only ignored the will of the people and imposed a redefinition of marriage on Californians,” Lavy said. “It has inflicted years of legal chaos quite possibly on the entire country."
With your prayers and continued support we will stand for each battle, and the next, and the next. At ADF, God has called us “for just such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). By God’s grace, we’ve seen 35 wins on the battlefield for marriage and two disappointing losses, with three cases presently pending. Together, humbly on our knees, we can face this current reality and know that – ultimately – we can and will win!
