1. Proposition 8 defenders allowed to intervene against attack on Calif. marriage amendment
A federal court Tuesday ruled that the official proponents and campaign committee for Proposition 8, ProtectMarriage.com, will be allowed to intervene federal court against a Hollywood-backed lawsuit designed to tear down California’s voter-approved marriage amendment. Alliance Defense Fund attorneys are co-counsel in the case along with ADF-allied attorney Andrew Pugno and lead counsel Charles J. Cooper.

2. New hotline for Wash. Referendum 71 supporters who encounter retaliation
Wednesday the Alliance Defense Fund opened a free telephone hotline (1-800-655-6592) and Web page (www.telladf.org/r71) for Washingtonians who believe they have credible reports of retaliation against them because of their support of Referendum 71. Referendum 71 is a citizen initiative that would allow voters to decide on a state senate bill that makes marriage and “registered domestic partnerships” effectively the same except in name.

3. ADF appeals DC board’s faulty decision to deny vote on same-sex ‘marriage’
Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the District of Columbia Board of Elections and Ethics on behalf of Bishop Harry R. Jackson and other D.C. voters, challenging its vote Monday to deny the people a say on the city council’s decision to recognize same-sex “marriages” from other jurisdictions. In the suit, ADF attorneys point out that the board disregarded a previous court ruling when rejecting a referendum that would allow voters to decide the matter.

4. Proclamation Supporting Homosexual Agenda Reveals Our Nation at a Turning Point
Last week, the White House issued a proclamation (if you haven’t, you MUST read it!) that could mark a significant turning point in the history of our country if the Body of Christ fails to respond.  For the first time, a presidential administration makes a point of committing itself publicly to the aggressive promotion of much of the homosexual legal agenda – supporting civil unions, adoptions by same-sex couples, and the passage of hate crimes legislation, all that can only achieve the aims of the homosexual activists by seriously curtailing religious freedom.

5. ADF attorney available to media following hearing on DC marriage referendum
Alliance Defense Fund Senior Legal Counsel Brian Raum will be available for media interviews after testifying before the Board of Elections at a hearing Wednesday. Raum will join pastors and others in support of allowing citizens of the District of Columbia to vote on whether to accept or reject the decision of the D.C. City Council to recognize same-sex “marriages” from other jurisdictions.

6. California Marriage Decision a Major Victory for Democratic Process
The good thing about last week's crucial decision by the California Supreme Court to uphold a state constitutional amendment affirming marriage as the union of one man and one woman is that the judges did the right thing by respecting hundreds of years of legal precedent and the wishes of more than seven million voters.

7. WV high court renders moms, dads unimportant in adoption cases
The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Friday reversed a lower court’s order to place a 15-month old foster child with a married family in accordance with state law.  According to attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund, the court’s ruling essentially elevated the desires of two cohabitating women who wanted to adopt the child over the state’s adoption law and the judge’s legal discretion to rule within the bounds of it.  The two women were temporarily providing foster care without any guarantee of adoption.

8. ADF to activist group: Stop threatening Maine diocese over marriage
Alliance Defense Fund attorneys sent a letter to the San Diego-based Empowering Spirits Foundation Thursday on behalf of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, Maine, urging it to cease filing frivolous and factually flawed IRS complaints as a way of intimidating organizations that believe in protecting marriage.

9. Proposition 8 defenders seek to intervene against Hollywood-backed lawsuit
The official proponents and campaign committee for Proposition 8, ProtectMarriage.com, filed a motion to intervene Thursday in federal court against a new Hollywood-backed lawsuit designed to tear down California’s voter-approved marriage amendment, upheld by the California Supreme Court just three days ago. ProtectMarriage.com is represented by Alliance Defense Fund attorneys and ADF-allied attorney Andrew Pugno.
