WASHINGTON — Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund say they will be monitoring actions by the new administration and new Congress to see if they make good on promises to pursue damaging policy changes that will harm Americans.
"ADF is ready to go to court to fight a vast number of leftist policies promised by the new administration and Congress," said ADF Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull. Those policies include the following:
- Enactment of the Freedom of Choice Act, which would remove nearly all restrictions to abortion on demand nationwide and would compromise the right of health professionals and hospitals to opt out of performing abortions. Promised at:
- Repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act and nationalization of "domestic partnerships" and/or "civil unions," which opens the door for the legalization of same-sex "marriage" nationwide. Also, promotion of child adoption by same-sex couples, homosexual behavior in the military, and numerous other actions to create special rights for those engaged in homosexual behavior. Promised at:
- Enactment of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would remove the ability for employers to consider homosexual behavior or "gender identity or expression" as a factor in hiring. Promised at:
- Enactment of the Matthew Shepard Act and other laws against "hate speech" and "hate crimes" which enable the government to act as "thought police" and can be used to accuse Christians of hate for having biblical views on homosexual behavior. Promised at:
- Enactment of the "Fairness Doctrine," which would eliminate Christian and conservative free speech on the nation's airwaves. Promised at:
"All of these issues also have significant implications for religious liberty and rights of conscience," Bull explained. "ADF is a legal alliance uniquely equipped to fight these battles, and we are prepared to do so regardless of whether the threats come from the government or from radical special interest groups."
ADF is a legal alliance of Christian attorneys and like-minded organizations defending the right of people to freely live out their faith.
