1. Ohio Supreme Court agrees state law requires compliance with abortion drug restrictions
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled Friday that an Ohio statute does indeed require abortionists to abide by the manufacturer’s dosing instructions and warnings when prescribing the abortion drug RU-486. The Alliance Defense Fund provided funding for a friend-of-the-court brief filed in the case by Americans United for Life.

2. ADF seeks to challenge order requiring FDA to disregard parental rights
Alliance Defense Fund attorneys together with attorney Charles Holster of Mineola have filed a motion to intervene to challenge a federal court order that requires the Food and Drug Administration to allow the Plan B drug, which many doctors believe can cause an abortion, to be sold over the counter to minors. The motion was filed on behalf of Concerned Women for America, the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, who contend that the order disregards parental rights and the safety of minors.

3. 4th Circuit upholds Va. partial-birth abortion ban
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled Wednesday to uphold the constitutionality of Virginia’s partial-birth abortion ban.  The full court reversed a previous decision by a three-judge panel that determined the ban was unconstitutional.

4. Officials in Md. can't shake violations against young pro-life advocates
A federal judge refused Wednesday to grant motions by the Maryland State Police, Harford County, and the city of Bel Air to dismiss a lawsuit brought against them by Alliance Defense Fund attorneys on behalf of three young pro-life women. ADF attorneys filed the lawsuit last September, arguing that the women’s constitutional rights were violated by officers who arrested, jailed, shackled, and strip-searched them for sharing a peaceful pro-life message along a public street.

5. Pro-life group wins victory at highest court in Slovak Republic
The highest court of the Slovak Republic ruled in favor of a pro-life group Tuesday in its lawsuit against police.  Attorney Dr. Alan Bohm together with Alliance Defense Fund attorneys represented the Centre for Bio-ethical Reform Europe, which filed suit after police disrupted a peaceful pro-life rally that was held in full compliance with domestic law.  The court ruled that police violated the pro-life group’s constitutional right to free speech.

6. ADF joins memorandum calling for stem cell researchers to ‘do no harm’
The Alliance Defense Fund joined with other pro-life organizations Tuesday to submit a memorandum to the National Institutes of Health on the scientific and ethical repercussions of proposed guidelines on human embryonic stem cell research. The memorandum is in response to the NIH’s request for public comment on proposed guidelines that will establish policy and procedures for funding research on human embryonic stem cells derived from embryos created by in vitro fertilization.

7. ADF attorneys file brief with U.S. Supreme Court supporting ‘Choose Life’ plates
Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund filed a friend-of-the-court brief Tuesday with the U.S. Supreme Court in Choose Life Illinois v. White. The brief asks the court to review an appellate court’s decision denying Choose Life Illinois’ members the right to produce a specialty license plate with the slogan “Choose Life,” as part of a state program, because the words had been deemed too “controversial.”

8. ADF-allied attorney available to media following hearing in Mass. ‘buffer zone’ case
ADF-allied attorney Michael DePrimo will be available for media interviews immediately following oral argument Tuesday before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit in McCullen v. Coakley.  DePrimo will be arguing on behalf of several pro-life advocates against a Massachusetts law that creates a 35-foot “buffer zone” restricting pro-life advocates from talking with people entering abortion clinics.

9. ADF offers to defend Orange County policy preventing public funds from subsidizing abortionists
Alliance Defense Fund attorneys have offered to defend the Orange County Board of Supervisors pro bono in the event it faces any threats of legal action by Planned Parenthood or similar pro-abortion groups over a new policy the board passed Tuesday restricting certain county funds from being used for abortions.

10. 3rd Circuit says Penn. pro-life counselors deserve their day in court
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit reversed a federal judge’s decision against two pro-life advocates Monday, saying that the two men deserve to have their cases considered by a jury. Alliance Defense Fund attorneys and allied attorneys represent Edward Snell and John McTernan, who were arrested and threatened with arrest, respectively, for exercising their First Amendment rights in a public alley next to a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic.
