A Mother and Daughter Say, "Thank you ADF"
Recently, we received the following letter from a Massachusetts mother whom the Alliance Defense Fund was able to assist when she tried to opt-out her seventh grade daughter from an explicit sex-education course. Here are excerpts from that note that we received from the mother:
"...I am writing with sincere appreciation that you took the time and interest to forward [our problem] to your Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull. His quick and thorough response was an actual answer to prayer...I do not look forward to these fights [with the school]...I know too well what kind of resistance to expect [to excuse my daughter from health class] so I prayed to God for strength and guidance. The very next morning I found the response from Mr. Bull...Mr. Sears, my husband has been laid off of work for over three months and there is no way that we could hire an attorney to prepare. This is cruelly ironic as the school has access to ample legal assistance to fight us with our own tax dollars. The research and clarity of Mr. Bull's assistance is so helpful and I want to thank you most heartily. But most of all, the emotional support from your organization has given us the confidence to face whatever it is that we must."
Then quite unexpectantly, we received the following note from her daughter:
"I am grateful for your time, effort, expertise, but most of all, your support. I have had some wonderful teachers but unfortunately too many others want to 'teach' me things other than reading, writing, and arithmetic...This is why it seems like I stand alone at school and it can be scary...I am deeply moved that you, Mr. Sears, and Mr. Bull, would give so much support to me...a seventh grade girl whom you've never met. I hope to be just as generous once I'm older...I am most thankful to God who answers our prayers and who has given His blessings to us through organizations like ADF."
When we receive letters like this, we are reminded of one of ADF's core values: "We are servants of the body of Christ" (1 Timothy 4:6). It is a value that we can never forget. Your support makes even this small victory possible.
