SEATTLE — Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Nate Kellum will be available to answer questions from the media following a hearing tomorrow regarding a civil rights lawsuit filed against Kent School District after high school officials denied equal access on campus to a student Bible club.

“Christian high school students should not be treated as second-class citizens on campus,” said Kellum.  “The Kent School District says other student clubs are fine, including the Gay-Straight Alliance, but a Bible club is not.  School officials should not be allowed to discriminate against students of faith.”

For almost two years, Kentridge High School officials stonewalled students Sarice Undis and Julianne Stewart after they submitted an application for a club charter in September 2001.  The school told them to apply again in February 2003, but school officials rejected the second application as well.

“The school district’s so-called ‘non-discrimination’ policy is supposed to prevent all kinds of discrimination,” said Kellum.  “The problem is, school officials are wrongfully discriminating against this Christian student group.”
