WALHALLA, S.C. — Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund have sent an informational letter offering free legal assistance to the members of the Oconee County Council and other area officials after the ACLU complained about members’ opening prayers at public meetings.
“For the second time in less than a week, the ACLU’s desire to muzzle legitimate prayer at public meetings has reared its ugly head,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Mike Johnson. “Their belief that the law requires some sort of hollow ‘neutrality’ in public prayer is completely unfounded.”
A copy of the informational letter mailed to Oconee County officials is available at

“Until the ACLU ends its aggressive campaign to strike fear in the hearts of public officials as a means of furthering their goal of a secular America, the Alliance Defense Fund will continue to offer to defend those officials free of charge.”
