NATIONAL CASE UPDATE
In recent months, God has blessed the Alliance Defense Fund and its allies with a series of victories for religious liberty, family values, and the sanctity of human life. Here are just a few recent examples made possible by your support. Thank you!
Pennsylvania School: Devils OK, but Jesus Has to Go
As part of a school-sponsored mandatory Halloween celebration, officials at Willow Hill Elementary in Philadelphia required students to wear a costume if they wanted to participate in the festivities.
After ADF Attorneys Intervene, Students Can Again Pledge Allegiance
In early 2007, students at Tucson Accelerated High School in Arizona were told that the pledge of allegiance would no longer be recited on campus. Why?
ADF Attorneys Win Equal Access for National Day of Prayer Event
When Dave Barkey, the coordinator of a National Day of Prayer event in Idaho Springs, Colorado, planned for his community to observe the day in a park area outside city hall, he also reserved the city council meeting room just in case of inclement weather.

LANDMARK SUPREME COURT DECISION UPHOLDS PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION BAN!
On April 18th, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a monumental 5-4 decision upholding the 2003 law banning partial-birth abortions. This is the first time since the Roe v. Wade decision was issued that any prohibition of an abortion procedure was upheld.

ADF attorneys, in coordination with our ally the Christian Legal Society, filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the case. Since our launch in 1994, ADF has been involved on the frontline fight for life on this and many other issues.
Coming after years of prayer and perseverance by ADF and our allies, this ruling will literally spare untold thousands of unborn babies from a gruesome death. In the majority ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy correctly acknowledged: "In a decision so fraught with emotional consequence, some doctors may prefer not to disclose the precise details of the means that will be used..."
Stunning Victory for Mother and Daughter Deals Major Defeat to Homosexual Legal Agenda
Titanic showdown between ADF and our allies and radical advocates of homosexual behavior ends with God-given victory at the Utah Supreme Court!

Cheryl Barlow

Today, radical advocates of homosexual behavior--including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)--will stop at nothing to advance the homosexual legal agenda, even if it means forcibly separating children from their parents.

By God's grace and thanks to the faithful, dedicated prayers and support of our ministry friends, the Alliance Defense Fund is increasingly able to stand up to them. As you're about to read, the results are a beautiful testament to what God will do when His people provide resources and help others persevere through trial--especially on their knees in prayer--for as long as it takes to win....

At 17, Cheryl Barlow decided she had "failed" as a woman--that she was not "pretty enough or feminine enough or domestic enough." Shortly thereafter, she began a decades-long experience with what she calls "the revolving door" of relationships in the lesbian community.

Your Prayers Requested: Entire Fifth Circuit to Hear ADF vs. ACLU on Prayer Censorship Case
The ACLU, America's number-one censor of religious speech, has been on a legal rampage against public prayer, issuing threats and filing lawsuits--especially in the Southeast.

One of the most important cases is in Louisiana, where the ACLU is in the midst of litigation against the Tangipahoa Parish School Board because of the board's historical invocation practice. The Louisiana chapter of the ACLU went so far as to demand imprisonment for school board officials, declaring in one motion for contempt that the officials' actions "must result in their removal from society."

ADF and our allies are defending the right of the board members to pray. Earlier at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, a three-judge panel awarded the ACLU a divided victory.

ADF U.S. Supreme Court Success: Justices 8-1 Vacate "Brokeback Mountain Decision"
By God's grace, the U.S. Supreme Court granted the Alliance Defense Fund's request for review and gave a victory in Harper v. Poway Unified School District. The case centered on the First Amendment right of a high school student, Chase Harper, who wore a T-shirt to school expressing a Biblical view of homosexual behavior.

Despite allowing students who support homosexual behavior to advertise their opinions on their clothing, school officials censored Chase's shirt, telling him to "keep his faith in the car." He was even subjected to questioning by an armed deputy!

The Justice Department Gets It Right, and Americans Should Take Heart
For 87 years, the ACLU has worked tirelessly to create a legal climate of fear, intimidation, and disinformation to silence religious expression and erase Americans' religious history and heritage.

We've been spreading that message since ADF was launched. Today, we're very encouraged to report that more and more people "get it"--and that we're gaining allies in some very high places along the way . . . including at the U.S. Department of Justice!

Just recently, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announced the launch of the Department of Justice's First Freedom Project to strengthen legal efforts to preserve religious liberty throughout our nation.

Not only did the nation's highest law enforcement officer recognize that
Alan E. Sears, President, CEO & General Counsel
there is a genuine crisis of religious liberty in our nation today—but also in doing so he specifically cited several cases ADF and our allies have fought and, by God's grace, won over the past several years, including victories from New York, Michigan, and Texas.
ADF Attorney Takes On ACLU President in High-Energy Debate
ADF Senior Legal Counsel Mike Johnson debated ACLU President Nadine Strossen in a special event at Pennsylvania's Susquehanna University titled "Bare It or Bar It: Should Government Regulate Adult Pornography to Prevent Exposure to Minors?"

The packed house enjoyed a lively, spirited argument against the ACLU's radical claim that the First Amendment protects the distribution of every form of pornography, even that involving small children and the most violent rape. ACLU President Nadine Strossen suggested at the debate that children could actually benefit from material that had been deemed sexually explicit by the Child Online Protection Act. According to Strossen, children's exposure to pornography is OK as long as it is used in what she would consider to be an appropriate context.

By God's Grace, ADF Clients Go Five for Five!
Even though Roe v. Wade--for yet awhile--remains in place as the Supreme Court's most deadly mistake, a growing number of pro-life advocates are saving lives and building a culture of life by sharing the truth about abortion with their friends, peers, and communities.

But many of these individuals have found their right to express their opinions increasingly under attack--especially in the nation's public schools.

Now, by God's grace -- and thanks to your prayers and support--we've gone "five for five" in one single month in recent legal efforts protecting pro-life students' free-speech rights.
