A Special Time This Past
Weekend with Our Co-Founder Dr. D. James Kennedy...
On Saturday night, I had the honor of addressing the Center for
Reclaiming America's 10th anniversary celebration in Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida.
It was wonderful time with so many of ADF's friends and supporters, but
most notably, it was a time to honor ADF's co-founder Dr. D. James
Kennedy for his vision and for his perseverance to stay in the battle.
The
center's audience was excited to learn about how the Lord has rewarded
Dr. Kennedy's (left) vision with the nine God-given courtroom victories
for marriage this past summer, the wins in the legal battle to
preserve public displays of the Ten Commandments, and other key issues
in the defense of our First Liberty – religious freedom.
But most of all, I was truly blessed to pay tribute to Dr. Kennedy, a
true mentor, and humble servant of the Lord as well as Gary Cass,
executive director of the Center. Thank you Dr. Kennedy for your
leadership, your vision, and your perseverance. You are an
inspiration to us all!
ADF Wins for Religious Speech
Coast-to-Coast
In Los Angeles, California,
ADF attorneys reached a settlement with county officials that will
allow religious expression on public sidewalks surrounding county court
buildings.
Christian author and TV co-host Ray Comfort and Pastor Emeal Zwayne
(pictured with ADF Senior Legal Counsel Mike Johnson, center) peacefully
shared their faith outside a Los Angeles county courthouse for over two
years. Then in late 2005, police officers removed both men from a
walkway outside the courthouse and ordered them not to return, citing
the court's newly-enacted policy, a so-called "no-speech zone."
ADF filed a federal civil rights lawsuit to challenge the
unconstitutional policy, and court officials ultimately agreed to revise
their rules in a manner that once again allows the Gospel to be shared
near county courthouses.
ADF's Johnson says: "For more than two years, virtually no complaints
or other problems occurred, yet the presiding judge suddenly chose to
institute a ban on our clients' religious speech. We are pleased
that those who choose to exercise their First Amendment rights on
sidewalks outside courthouse buildings will no longer have to fear legal
consequences."

In Pasadena, Maryland,
Hillary Humphrey, a high school student was told that she could not
promote her pro-life event at her campus. All Hillary wanted to do
was pass out flyers that informed students about the event to heighten
awareness about the number of babies tragically aborted each year.
Although the school policy allows students and student groups to
distribute and post other literature, Hillary's materials were
considered to be "too inflammatory."
Hillary contacted ADF, and ADF senior legal counsel Brian Raum sent a
letter to school officials, informing them of Hillary's rights under the
Constitution. The result? The school allowed Hillary and
other pro-life students to publicize their pro-life event – which
occurs this Tuesday, October 24th. A copy of Brian's letter to the
school officials is available to read at www.telladf.org/UserDocs/HumphreyLetter.pdf.
