Student-Led "Day of Truth" Experiences Incredible Growth in 2007!
Three years ago, a new student-led event, the "Day of Truth" was
launched to present an alternative to the "Day of Silence," which
promotes the acceptance of homosexual behavior in our nation's
tax-funded schools.
No one knew what would happen. But slowly and surely, more and
more courageous high school students are willing to exercise their
constitutional right to stand up to the demands of the homosexual
agenda at their schools.
On Thursday, April 19th, the 3rd
"Day of Truth" was held across America. 7,013 students,
representing 1,618 schools in 49 states participated - an increase of
nearly 5,000 students from 2006, and almost 6,000 students from the
first "Day of Truth" in 2005. And nearly every media story on the
homosexual advocates' "Day of Silence" included a reference to the "Day
of Truth" - letting the public know there are two sides to the story.
As always, ADF and its allies had work to do to preserve the free
speech rights of students participating in the "Day of Truth,"
including:
- Bel Air, Maryland:
Beth Otradovec was told by officials at her high school that she and the
Bible Club could not post signs or announcements or distribute fliers
promoting the "Day of Truth," even though the school facilitated such
activities by students participating in the "Day of Silence," which
promotes homosexual behavior. After receiving a letter from ADF
Legal Counsel Matt Bowman informing them of Beth's rights under the
Constitution, school officials quickly reversed course and allowed Beth
and other students to promote the "Day of Truth" by all these methods. read more...
- Allendale, New Jersey:
For the second year in a row, North Highlands Regional High School
blocked students' efforts to promote the "Day of Truth." In 2006,
school officials had backed down on their censorship of the effort
after ADF attorneys sent a letter to the school of behalf of Jason
Aufiero, a student who sought to promote the event at the school.
Despite having the information in hand on why the school could not
suppress the "Day of Truth," they tried to do so again - telling Jason
and the members of the school's Christian club that they could not
engage in any expressive activities regarding the "Day of Truth."
School officials openly supported the "Day of Silence."
ADF attorneys quickly filed a
lawsuit on behalf of Jason and the Christian club, to defend their
Constitutional right to promote the "Day of Truth" on campus.
School officials backed down and ADF attorneys are pursuing a
preliminary injunction against the school administration to stop future
censorship. read more...
We praise God for this growth in
just three years - and we salute the courageous young men and women who
are willing to put their "faith on the line" to share Christ's love
while standing up for the Truth in the often hostile environment of our
nation's tax-funded schools.
