The Grants and Review Council
The Grants and Review Council members are seven lawyers who between them have more than 100 years of in-depth legal experience in the areas of law relevant to case funding applications. None of them are employed by ADF; some are the principal lawyers of allied legal organizations (all are very cognizant of avoiding any conflicts in funding recommendations), and include the former general counsel for a major agency of the Southern Baptist Convention, as well as a principal lawyer involved in the debate and drafting process for the Equal Access Act with members of the United States Congress.
Some of the GRC members have appeared before the United States Supreme Court and all have been successful litigants in a variety of matters involving religious liberty. They make their funding decisions carefully, after a substantial amount of review of facts and legal issues before them. After their review, recommendations are sent to ADF's Board of Directors for final approval.
One of the most important factors in their decision making is whether or not the case has potential to establish precedent to advance the goal of re-opening and keeping the door open for the spread of the Gospel as directed by our Founders. Guidelines are set forth.
